Department of Public Works is seeking a Seasonal Laborer This
position will primarily be assigned to the Forestry Division, but
will be expected to assist in other Divisions as directed. Job
Description: Essential job functions include, but are not limited
to: Maintains the urban forest, including planting, removal,
trimming, mulching, and general care of trees and shrubs. Maintains
landscape beds, medians, pots and planters, including planting,
weeding, mulching, and general care. Performs brush collection,
prepares civic displays, and assists with landscape improvements.
Assists with Streets Division activities including maintaining and
repairing streets, sidewalks, and parking lots; maintaining Village
signage; installing temporary signage for special events; hauling
materials; and leaf collection. Operates a variety of light-duty
trucks and equipment in the repair, maintenance and construction of
public works water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems,
streets, and urban forest. Assists with the preparations and tear
down/cleanup for events, festivals, and special functions. Inspects
and maintains vehicles and equipment; reports malfunctions to
supervisor. Qualifications: Ability to operate vehicles, equipment
and machinery such as light to heavy-duty trucks, hand and power
tools, mowers, string trimmers, brush chippers, hedge trimmers, and
chain saws. Ability to tolerate both inside and outside
environmental conditions. Position is performed under fluctuating
and extreme temperatures, with some exposure to noise. Must be
eligible for employment in the U.S. and pass a pre-employment
background check and medical and drug screening (including
cannabis). Education, Experience and Licenses: Must be 18 or older.
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Possession of a
valid Illinois driver's license is required. Possession of a Class
B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement is
preferred. Salary: $18.50 to $23.50 per hour, depending on
qualifications. Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
