Description
Through leadership by example, provide instruction, administer
authentic assessments, and foster an active learning environment
that is focused on student foundational competence, success,
retention, and completion.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not
limited to)
- Develop and maintain course curriculum. Align curriculum to
departmental, state, and/or other applicable standards and
outcomes.
- Plan, deliver and facilitate student learning, including
providing ongoing quality feedback to students.
- Assess student attainment of learning outcomes and critical
life skills (both formative and summative), at the course, program,
and college level.
- Collect, report, analyze, and use data to support continuous
improvement at the course, program and college level.
- Use technology to facilitate student learning, college
processes, and personal productivity.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including
local treatment centers, recovery programs, and community
organizations to enhance student learning opportunities.
- Participate as a productive member of a team.
- Maintain college learning resources and equipment.
- Participate in recruitment and retention activities.
- Pursue ongoing professional development, maintain occupational
competency, and ensure knowledge of current laws and regulations
related to the profession(s) in which instruction is
provided.Support students in meeting clinical requirements.
- Work with justice-involved individuals enrolled in OWI-related
courses to foster personal insight, behavior change, and risk
reduction strategies.
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of state and national trends in substance use
disorder treatment and counseling.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of programmatic discipline,
curriculum development, effective teaching/learning principles, and
evaluation.Knowledge of state licensing requirements for Substance
Abuse Counselors.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills - oral, written,
active listening, and non-verbal cues.
- Strong customer service skills which includes working with
individuals from various backgrounds.
- Ability to manage time, organize work and meet deadlines.
- Ability to effectively integrate technology into instructional
delivery and assessment.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working
relationships with internal (staff, management, personnel) and
external contacts (employers, clients, and vendors).
- Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills
to work and/or the improvement of processes and/or systems.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and/or with
minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing
priorities.
- Intermediate level of proficiency with computer software
applications such as word processing, database, spreadsheet, and
presentation programs.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with video-conferencing and
technologies associated with adult-centric teaching and learning,
as well as within specific programmatic disciplines, which may
include web technologies, operating systems, online program
tracking platforms, social media platforms, mobile technology
tools, and/or AV/multimedia applications and equipment.
- A strong commitment to the rights surrounding the participation
and access of all individuals to a full and independent
life.EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's degree in related field with licensure as a Clinical
Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), Marriage and
Family Therapist (LMFT). An equivalent combination of related
education, occupational experience and licensure may be
considered.
- Current licensure as a Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) or
Clinical Substance Abuse Credential (CSAC) preferred.
- Twenty-four months of verifiable occupational experience
working in a substance abuse counseling role. One year (2000 hours)
shall be within the previous five years. One year of related
occupational experience may be waived if the candidate has at least
two years of post-secondary teaching experience in substance use
disorder counseling within five years.
- Attain and maintain a WTCS teaching certificate.
Supplemental Information
The Instructor - Substance Use Disorder Counseling supports the
School of Protective and Human Services and is available to start
by July 1st, 2025.
This position requires Wisconsin residence.HoursThis is a full-time
instructor position on a flexible year-round calendar. Teaching
assignments include variable hours, including days, evenings,
and/or weekends.
