What you will do:
The Safety Specialist is responsible for implementing,
monitoring and coordinating all associate safety, fleet and
environmental activities at the plant level and at surrounding
Airgas locations in the region. They will champion and promote a
strong safety and compliance culture by instituting programs to
ensure associate safety and company regulatory compliance.
Reviews core safety metrics and safety performance trends.
Develops tactical controls for any potential increases in risk.
Provides leadership, mentoring and guidance to associates
engaged in safety and accident prevention activities.
Conducts investigations for all incidents, near misses, and
Preventable Vehicle Accidents (PVAs).
Administers and maintains incident reporting systems to ensure
sites are compliant with state, federal and company
Utilizes incident and root cause analysis to provide direction
and recommendations to plant operating personnel with regard to
mitigating and controlling losses and fostering a proactive safety
culture within facilities.
Facilitates safety and health training in accordance with
regulations, company policies and other requirements.
Performs audits on Airgas various standard operating procedures
(SOP) including the Safety Manual, Acetylene Manual and other
pertinent corporate compliance manuals and initiatives. May receive
direction on tasks from supervisor or other managers.
Provides guidance, communication and coaching to site leadership
teams and personnel on safety and health requirements to increase
awareness and ensure compliance in specific safety
Support Safecor, Division and Regional initiatives to develop
process changes and take ownership for supporting and executing
environment, health, and safety (EHS) strategies. Drives EHS
promotion and communication activities including but not limited to
safety talks, recognition events and achievement celebrations.
Leads the Contractor Safety Program at the plant level to ensure
compliance and proper safety training for all on-site personnel
including accurate vendor information.
Completes and submits Tier II reports for all applicable
locations in the Midwest region.
Monitors and resolves environmental compliance issues, including
but not limited to soil contamination and offsite facility plans
with Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC) for sites with high

What you will have:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Valid Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and/or Certified
Safety Professional (CSP) certification a plus.
A minimum of 3 years of related safety experience within a
production and distribution environment.
Solid understanding of technical aspects of plant
Must have excellent organizational, written and oral
communication, listening and presentation skills including the
ability to effectively present and discuss technical information
and respond to questions from employees, government agency
representatives, and customers.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical
instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
Ability to define and solve problems dealing with a variety of
both abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions,
percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply basic
algebra and geometry.
Computer literate with Intermediate knowledge of Google Office
applications as well as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Regularly move and/or transport up to 60 pounds and move up to
125 pounds with the aid of material handling equipment.
