Position Description:
The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Medicine, Division
of Hematology/Oncology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician
Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within
defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed
physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and
procedures. This position is located at Froedtert/MCW Cancer Center
Outpatient Clinics/primarily at the Hematological Malignancies &
BMT clinic at FMLH with coverage at other clinic sites as
needed.The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a
multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of
diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the
outpatient services as a member of the Department of
Medicine/Division of Hematology and Oncology.In this role you will
be responsible for the following:
- Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies
normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and
psychosocial status.
- Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment
plans.
- Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
- Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
- Performs procedures as trained and appropriately
credentialed.
- Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and
completes other necessary documents.
- Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health
care providers as appropriate.
- Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding
current health problems, health maintenance activities and
preventive behaviors.Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in
diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring
Hematology/Oncology/BMT intervention in outpatient environment as a
member of the HemOnc/BMT outpatient service.
- Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes,
and/or admission and transfer orders.
- Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic
procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents
information.
- Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by
the Hematology/Oncology/BMT services.
- Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to
promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
- Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements,
including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint
Commission.
- Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of
this team through participation in the development of quality
indicators and outcomes dashboard.
- Acquires information on the most current development and trends
in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field,
through educational programs, in-services, professional associates,
and current literature.
- Participates in ongoing clinical research projects related to
the field of hematology/oncology/BMT.The above statements are

Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level
of patient care coverage. May require evening, weekend or holiday
hours in the future based on business needs. Monday- Friday,
8:00-5:00; Weekend rotations may be required.

Preferred Experience: Five-year experience as a Physician
Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner with at least 1-2 years in a clinic
or hospital environment working with chemotherapy or
hematology/oncology/BMT patients.Minimum Education:Advanced
Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician
Assistant StudiesMinimum Requirements: *or eligibleAdvanced
Practice Nurse Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner
- Wisconsin RN License
- Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License
- Certification as Advance Practice Nurse
- Certification as Acute Care NP and/or Certified Nurse
Specialist preferred
- Will consider certification as Adult Care NP and/or Family
Practice NP
- AHA BCLS
- CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire
- ACLS Certification preferred
- DEA Physician Assistant
- Wisconsin Physician Assistant License
- Certification by NCCPA
- AHA BCLS
