Job Title: Electrical Designer

Business Area: Baldwin Vision Systems

Workweek: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Location: Waukesha, WI (in person)

Reports To: VP Engineering & Product Management

Collaborates With: Engineering, Manufacturing, Field Service, Purchasing, & Manufacturing Engineer

BALDWIN VISION OVERVIEW

Baldwin Vision Systems designs and manufactures machine vision control systems for the printing and packaging industries. Our systems constantly monitor our customers' printing processes checking for color / register issues and/or print defects using our high-speed camera systems in order to reduce process waste and to ensure compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES / TRAITS

The Electrical Designer is a key role within the Baldwin Vision team. A key responsibility for this individual is for creating electrical drawing packages. These drawing packages detail how the Baldwin system(s) install on and interface with a customer's press and/or converting systems. Accurate drawing packages are critical for Baldwin's success (especially for the purchasing, production, and installation teams).

The ideal candidate will be able to work with key internal and external stakeholders throughout the value stream including the customer, sales, product management, engineering, purchasing, production, and field service teams. This individual will be required to travel 10-20% (primarily domestically, but occasionally internationally) to perform customer site visits. The purpose of these site visits (which are generally done with others) is to gather the technical data required to confirm the system configuration and to create an accurate drawing package.

This individual will also be involved in Baldwin's efforts to simplify our product offering and reducing costs (via decreasing the number of unique part numbers, finding lower cost system components, simplifying press interfaces, etc). This is of strategic importance to Baldwin in order to stay competitive in the marketplace.

Pending the experience and capabilities of the chosen individual, the Electrical Designer will also be involved in new product design. Potential activities may include top level circuit design, printed circuit board (PCB) layout, prototyping, lab testing, component selection, and addressing obsolescence issues.

Other responsibilities of the Electrical Designer include:

Coordinate with Purchasing and suppliers to help specify the appropriate and cost-effective components needed for designs.

Support Engineering in creating and controlling bills of materials for all new designs and support with transition of products from Engineering to Manufacturing. This includes ERP system item creation and maintenance.

Support Manufacturing with production issues on an as needed basis (with occasional travel to Baldwin's production facility in Southern Illinois).

Critical system component lifecycle notification and obsolescence strategy with a focus on consolidation and cost reduction efforts.

The individual who fills this roll will have a significant amount of professional growth potential within the Baldwin organization. Potential growth paths include Application Engineering, Field Service Engineer, and Advanced Electrical Design.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Minimum of an Associates' Degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology, or Design is desired, but similar degrees and/or experience will also be considered. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • AutoCAD Electrical and/or SolidWorks Electrical experience with proficiency in system and part level schematic creation is required.
    • Prior experience with the ability to develop and maintain multi-level bills of materials in ERP systems is preferred.
    • The ability to analyze technical data and determine applicability to designs.
    • Proficient with PCs and the Microsoft Office suite is required.
    • Good oral and written communication skills and an eye for detail are a must.
    • Experience with PCB layout would be a significant plus, but is not required.
    • Experience or knowledge of LED lighting and/or printing processes would be a plus, but is not required.
    • Ability to travel to customer or Baldwin Vision Systems manufacturing sites would be required (10-20% travel).
    • Minimum related experience - 3 years, but candidates with less experience will be considered if they excel in most areas and are a great cultural fit

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.

      Physical Effort: Work requires handling light weight materials or equipment with no special speed or exertion.

      Working Conditions: Ordinary office, shop, field, or warehouse working conditions
